Get creative with your lunch-time picnic menu
Take a couple of food thermos flasks and make a nice two-part meal. Or take two small cooking pots with clamp down lids. Best to cook it first, then build a tiny fire to reheat, perhaps on a beach .
Perhaps chickpea curry and Dahl? Or soups? A hearty hot one for a chilly wet day or an ice cold Pistachio for a scorcher.
At least once in your holiday, stoke up the fire from the previous night and put a few sticks on to cook up a nice’ out and about’ meal.
A combination of curry and rice or dahl, with some flat breads cooked on a skittle then wrapped in foil will be a tasty meal. Nicer than you will find out and about. You are eating better and saving money.
A nice two pot thermos combo for a cold day is sausage and mash. Chopped up sausages in one, and a nice creamy mash as a hot dip in the other.
Using wooden forks to pick up the chopped up sausages and eating the whole thing straight from the pots. No waste little washing up (splash a bit of water in the pots before closing to make washing them easier back at camp). With ketchup and mustard on the side. Hot hearty tasty and fun.
The sausages can be replaced with anything bite sized that will go on a fork. Or try vegetable bhajis in one and dahl dip.
Bon appetite!
