Classic Glamping from 1961
We tend to think of Glamping as a modern phenomenon, taking the basic premise of camping but making it more comfortable and stylish.
This video shows that people have been having fun developing new camping concepts since the birth of the camping movement. I wonder if there is a market for something like this today? It’s essentially a trailer tent (with room for a boat), but with a classic vintage style. I would love to own one.
Note the orange dome tent in the background. Years before its time. In these days tents were canvas A frame, as they had been forever.
I have photographs of Glastonbury Festival in the early 80’s and there is barely a dome tent insight, 22 years after this picture video was taken. Five years later by the mid late 80’s there is barely an A-frame tent in view.
The revolution had happened largely down to the development of carbon fibre flexible poles. The orange tent in the picture is inflatable. Funny that the video concentrates on the trailer tent and not the dome that will go on the have the much greater impact and ultimately transform camping as we know it.
