What Have You Forgotten This Time?
We’ve all done it, got to our glampsite and realised we’ve forgotten to pack enough socks, failed to bring the wet weather gear, or haven’t a clue what we’ll do for the next couple of days because we’re unfamiliar with the area. Fear not, we have a handy checklist of the most commonly overlooked things you should have done, or brought with you.
- Check the weather. It’s worth checking and comparing a few long-range forecasts to get a good idea of what you can expect, climate-wise. Even when you’ve checked the weather and its forecast to be hot and sunny, do pack some wellies and anoraks just in case things change at the last minute.
- Research the local area and the visitor attractions, quirks of parking, and the tucked-away places where you can escape the crowds. Many pubs in tourist areas have a selection of leaflets for local attractions, but you can save yourself valuable vacation time by planning these day trips in advance. You could even save yourself some cash by pre-booking trips and tickets.
- Double check your underwear. We don’t know why, but underwear is often the thing that is forgotten while packing clothes, so make sure you have packed enough or you’ll waste holiday time buying pants in the supermarket.
- Freeze your food. Milk, meat and bread can be easily frozen without compromising on quality when it thaws. Anything else you want to keep in a cool box should be properly chilled before it goes in. The combination of chilled and frozen food will keep the temperature right down and ensure your food lasts for longer than 24 hours.
- If you want to do a spot of wildlife watching, bring your binoculars, identification books and some colouring pencils and paper to make a quick sketch of what you see to identify later, if you can’t be sure from the books.
- Check the battery levels in your electrical equipment and pack spares. Batteries are easy enough to buy anywhere, but this can take time away from enjoying yourself. Investing in a solar charger is well worth it to avoid this problem.
- Pack spare towels, toilet roll, medication and clothes so that you’re covered in emergencies, or when something gets lost.
- Check whether towels and bed linen are provided. Some sites provide both, some only provide the bedding. Again, being prepared saves you trudging round a supermarket having to buy things you already have, but forgot to bring with you.
