Mobile Glamping? Never Heard Of It!
The more adventurous among us may find the idea of spending a whole week in the same location unbearable, as there is so much out there to explore. What can you do if you want to travel, take in the sights, and still have a luxurious glamping style outdoor experience to come back to? The answer is mobile glamping. “What is mobile glamping?” I hear you ask. Well, mobile glamping is where you hire a camper van; you can take your home comforts with you and enjoy the benefits of glamping without being tied to a single site. Of course, you can travel to different sites and book glamping accommodation at each one, but once you’ve factored in check in and out times plus the travelling, you could find that you don’t actually have a holiday, and that you’ve just spent a week driving round the UK.
This is why hiring a camper van is a great idea for restless glampers as it allows you to take everything with you, even the kitchen sink! You would still need to book camper van pitches at the places you want to stay, but even with this cost on top of hiring the camper van it could still work out cheaper than booking glamping accommodation all around the country. Many businesses are starting to hire camper vans, including the fantastic Herdy, the Lake District based company who make and sell all manner of items inspired by the native Herdwick sheep. Their small fleet of camper vans come adorned with Herdy items, so for sheep lovers and anyone with kids the Herdy Hire option is great. There are also dedicated camper van hire companies across the UK with a range of vehicle options to suit everyone (although most stipulate that you cannot hire a campervan for a festival trip, and you would need to check whether you can go abroad in them).
Hiring a camper van is a great way of glamping with young kids because of all the stuff you need to carry with you for looking after and entertaining small children. It’s also a lovely idea for couples who want to go off grid for a weekend and it is ideal for anyone who needs a getaway over the winter, as it’s much easier to heat and insulate a vehicle than it is a tent!
This is a growing area of the glamping and leisure market and we can see it becoming hugely popular this year as people still aim to be self-contained on holiday – camper vans are easy to clean between hire periods and they’re perfect for keeping yourself to yourself. We have yet to meet a child that is not utterly enthralled by the idea of a home on wheels, so if you want to make your 2021 holiday one to remember for years to come then hiring a camper van is the way forward.
Many camper vans available for hire are purpose built vehicles, but there is also a growing sector of self-build and converted camper vans, which gives hirers the option of going to for something brand new and purpose built, or something quirky which someone has lovingly put together for the sole purpose of being a lovely space to spend time in. Quirky Campers is a great site for finding vans to hire (including those with log burners), for buying and selling camper vans and for inspiration for your own project, should you have the skills and inclination to make your own camper van or conversion yourself.
If you’re intrigued by the idea then why not try mobile glamping in late winter, when prices are cheaper and the van gives you that warmth and security you need on the cold nights. Mobile glamping is great at any time of the year, so if you loved it in the colder months you’re sure to love it in the summer too.
