New Year’s Resolution Ideas for Keen Glampers
It’s nearly time to make resolutions for 2021, and let’s face it, we probably want to move on from 2020 pretty quickly and focus on the future, and the positive things we can do. You might have a resolution from last year you haven’t been able to achieve due to the restrictions we’ve been living under, but you can always add a couple more to the pot and keep yourself busy for the next 12 months.
Learning something new is a common resolution, whether that’s a new language, a skill or even a formal programme of study. Skills that will come in handy when you’re glamping include bush craft, foraging, woodwork and fire building. There are many courses available all over the country for these skills, and because they’re all learned in the open air we can be reasonably sure that they’re Covid safe. Foraging is a very useful skill, and while we can all identify a blackberry, could we tell the difference between a hawthorn and a rosehip? Learning to identify wild food can be fun, and when we’re glamping and out in the countryside we can put these skills to good use all year round.
Building, lighting and managing a fire for cooking and heat is a skill that takes practice – when you really get into it you’ll want to experiment with different types of wood, different styles of building and even how to cook over a fire and still be able to keep warm from it. This is also a really useful skill in life, but when you’re glamping the ability to reliably build a great fire will save time. This will also allow you to spend that extra time relaxing round the fire with a bag of marshmallows for toasting.
Being more active is another common goal people set at the start of the year and this is a great one for glampers. Long walks in the countryside are an essential part of a glamping or camping holiday, plus they’re a great way to work up an appetite. You don’t have to be glamping to go for a long walk, but if you want to explore the area round your glampsite to the fullest then you might want to start training and build up your stamina with some long walks in your local area first. If there’s an activity you have always wanted to try, why not work that into a glamping holiday and find a site near the activity you want to try?
A resolution we can all get behind is spending more time with our family and loved ones; we have some catching up to do in that area. A glamping holiday is a fantastic way of safely spending time with our nearest and dearest, as we can look for sites with multiple pitches in close proximity and hire one per household. That way, you can safely socially distance in the open air and share some experiences, make some memories, and enjoy quality time together in a safe and fun way.
Lastly, travel is often on of the list of things we want to do. Booking overseas holidays may still be fraught with risk, so resolve to explore parts of the UK you have never been to before. From Land’s End to John O’Groats there are glamping sites just waiting for you to discover them, so cast your net across the UK and explore the parts of this beautiful island you’ve never seen. With a range of terrain from the flat Norfolk Broads to the rocky outcrops of the Highlands, you’ll find something to delight the senses and stimulate the mind.
